‘Big olives or Little Olives’ by Beryl Cook  Read the story behind this painting here:

“This sing song took place in a very nice restaurant in Philadelphia where, after winning and dinning, a group of friends gathered round the piano to perform songs from the shows. What a lovely evening: everyone enjoyed the unexpected entertainment and I found the enthusiasm of the singers very exciting. Back home with a pencil poised, I quickly discovered that it would need a very careful arrangement indeed for me to be able to show both the singers’ faces and the pianist’s, as well as his hands on the keys. A further difficulty I had was in painting the cocktails. Our friend Norman always enquired about the size of the olive when ordering his drink and this led to the name of the picture.” Beryl Cook
